Bairro Alto Hotel

On a square named after Luís de Camões, a giant of Portuguese poetry, the Bairro Alto Hotel continued its creative legacy when it invited Eduardo Souto de Moura, winner of the Pritzker Prize – architecture’s own ‘Nobel Prize’ – to design it. Bright spaces bathed in delicate hues of saffron, blue and ivory, frescoes of travellers on the walls, and cuisine with maritime flair come together to form an ode to serenity. As evening falls, Lisbon’s residents gather on the rooftop, where the setting sun provides a backdrop to the city’s pulsating rhythm, celebrating the unspoilt and poetic art still evident right through to the sense of gourmet celebration and attention paid to fine craftsmanship.
