Amanjiwo

Designed by architect Ed Tuttle as both a reflection of and a tribute to its surroundings, Amanjiwo faces the world’s largest Buddhist temple, Borobudur. The residence draws inspiration from the temple’s circular structure and the stupas themselves, monuments of profound spiritual symbolism. Surrounded by four dormant volcanoes, the site is organised around a central rotunda built from local limestone. The keys, arranged in a crescent, each resonate with the very name of the complex, which means ‘soul at peace’. Clad in precious wood and decorated in a palette of soft, warm ochre, cream, and terracotta, and with their domed roofs, they delicately reflect the essence of the tranquillity at the heart of Nusantara. The place is also the ideal starting point for strolls amongst the temples and rice paddies. When you return you can elevate your stay with traditional treatments and discover fragrant cuisine, to the hypnotic sounds of the gamelan.
