Aman Tokyo

Perched on the top floor of Otemachi Tower, right in the heart of Tokyo, this particular residence has a design guided by genius. Step out of the lift, into a space drenched with light from a skylight, illuminating your first steps into an interior that calls to mind the inside of a giant traditional washi paper lantern. The rooms extend this sensation of floating between hyperbolic urbanism and a discreet retreat, with soft lines, where camphor wood, basalt stone and sliding partitions lend the living space a unique atmosphere. From the swimming pool, bathers can admire the skyline in all its poetic splendour, before heading to the traditional baths in the spa. A local monk leads introductory sessions in zazen meditation to help melt away anxiety, and the same spirit comes to life at the eight-seat counter of Musashi, an intimate restaurant where the Edomae tradition (literally ‘in front of Edo’, a nod to Tokyo Bay) will forever transform your idea of the art of sushi.
