Chiang Rai, Thailand
At the meeting point of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar lies a biosphere observatory nestled in the jungle, where the daily movements of rescue elephants become a ritual in themselves. Accompanied by guides, guests can join the elephants on their walks and catch a glimpse of their daily lives. Designed in a traditional Thai style, the interiors feature teak, bamboo, rattan, and linen framing silks, cottons, and local artworks that add colour and warmth. The décor nods to the great travel epics of the early 20th century, with deep leather armchairs and vintage travel trunks placed beneath ceiling fans. Dinner can be served 52 metres above the plains, blending the natural surroundings with seasonal local cuisine, in a perfect synthesis of the setting.
