Banyan Tree AlUla

Banyan Tree AlUla

Banyan Tree AlUla looks like it was placed in Ashar Valley rather than built there. Forty-seven tented suites nestle between the sandstone cliffs, their canvas, terracotta and compacted earth borrowing the colours of the desert. Inside, Nabataean references meet bespoke furniture, natural fabrics and wide-open terraces. Some come with a private pool; others are best enjoyed by the fire once the sun has gone down. The Rock Pool is hidden in a natural cleft between the mountains, like a wadi after rain. At night, the valley becomes wonderfully still: a cup of Saudi coffee, the stars overhead, and little else to distract from the sky. Harrat looks to the flavours of AlUla, while Saffron brings Thai cooking to the valley. At Dove Canyon, dinner takes place beneath the sandstone cliffs, with the vast Ashar sky above.
