Capella Hanoi

Conceived as a tribute to the Hanoi Opera House, which enjoyed a reputation extending far beyond the borders of Indochina during its golden age in the 1920s, this intimate residence strikes a warm, colourful tone. Theatre memorabilia and original artworks abound, while portraits of Puccini, Nellie Melba, and Sarah Bernhardt create a space with distinct Belle Époque flair. Cornicing, wrought-iron balconies, and high ceilings harmonise naturally with objects hand-picked around the globe by the architect, Bill Bensley. The show continues inside the rooms, with unabashed maximalism and boudoir-style bathrooms, while heavy drapery and delicate silks add a touch of sensuality. The same spirit is embodied in the cuisine at Backstage, where the traditional repertoire of Vietnamese cooking is interpreted as a wholly modern performance.
