COMO Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos
An island devoted entirely to the art of staying awhile, Parrot Cay feels like a world of its own. Guests arrive by boat, then make their way around on foot or by bicycle, through dry forest, mangroves and coconut palms. It is a rather different take on the Caribbean, far removed from the grander traditions of the West. Here, nature sets the tone, finding its way into every part of the island, from the open-air spaces to the suites, villas and Beach Houses, all with the cool, unstudied air of a great tropical house. Teak terraces lead straight onto the sand, and from there the island is for guests to wander; their own little world of paths, palms and quiet corners. After a swim in the turquoise water, lunch might mean freshly caught fish grilled at Lotus; later, the calm of COMO Shambhala offers another way to spend the afternoon. A yoga or Pilates class, perhaps a treatment, and there is still time to find a place on the jetty or beneath a tiki hut and watch the sun go down.
