It runs from the wood-panelled lobby and its monumental staircase, hung with tapestries, to the Colonial One Bedroom Suite, where the panelling and dark wood take on an almost medieval character. It is an interior language that suits a city perched so high above sea level. The suites keep to a quieter register, their warmth and restraint set against the exuberance of Castanyoles. Behind its glass walls and among its abundant greenery, dinner moves through tapas and small plates, with the garden-like setting providing a rather lively counterpoint. At Boulevardier, the hour dictates the drink: a Cho-Wa, delicate with tea notes, earlier in the day; a Royal Salute Gun 62 and a cigar as evening settles in. All of it, naturally, best enjoyed beside the ever-burning fireplace.
