Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid

The Ritz in Madrid is over a century old and stands at the junction of the Prado and the Retiro: you can walk to the museum through the trees in the park, and enjoy afternoon tea on your return beneath the restored glass roof of the Palm Court. Architect Rafael de La-Hoz spearheaded the building’s Belle Époque revival, while Quique Dacosta oversees the hotel’s restaurants, including Deessa, where a lounge is named after Condesa Masslov, the name under which Mata Hari booked a room in 1916. At the Pictura bar, portraits of Spanish painters hang above the tables.
