Palace Hotel Tokyo

Modern architecture takes on a timeless, classic quality when it’s framed by heritage landmarks. This is certainly true of the Palace Hotel Tokyo, originally built in 1961, which sits right beside the gardens and tranquil pools of the Imperial Palace. While some suites extend outdoors with balconies – a rarity in the Japanese capital – the real sophistication lies within, with mineral-toned walls, gentle wood accents, washi paper, and contemporary artworks, all complemented by inviting armchairs and sofas in shades of pearl. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the Ginza skyline or, looking down, the maple trees of the gardens. After enjoying nodoguro tempura at Tatsumi, follow the river’s course through the aptly named Evian Spa. Inspired by the famous water’s journey through the Alps, the treatments unfold amidst rock gardens and undulating ceilings, with Mount Fuji visible in the distance on clear days.
