Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Part pristine nature reserve, part charming Thai village, this residence feels like the ends of the earth. Surrounding the 54 traditionally styled pavilions and villas, nature is omnipresent: in the gnarled branches of the banyan trees, the fronds of the sugar palms behind the high aubergine walls of the entrance, and the sweet scent of frangipani that perfumes the poolside viewpoint. Attention to detail is infused throughout this distinctive atmosphere, through hand-painted panels, warm-glowing Lanna lanterns, and rounded openings known as Moon Gates. Take a break from architectural explorations of the grounds to linger on Jampoon Beach for a chef-served barbecue by torchlight, or visit Sri Trang to savour Khao Yum Pak Tai, a Southern-style rice and herb salad served family-style, in keeping with tradition.
