Rosewood Mayakoba

Rosewood Mayakoba

On the Costa Maya, this is Mexico seen from a rather privileged angle: somewhere between the jungle and the sea, where golf is as much a part of the landscape as the palms and the turquoise water. Villas and pavilions sit lightly among the vegetation, their pale timber, rounded forms and broad glass walls opening the interiors to the world outside. The lagoon offers another way into the landscape. Small boats carry you out across the water, past the mangroves and towards the wildlife that inhabits these quieter corners of the coast. Back at the hotel, the suites are calm and sun-filled, with pale woods, linen and shades of sand and camel. Elsewhere, things become a little more colourful: bougainvillea spills across the terraces and Agave Azul, with its timber interior, brings a distinctly Mexican note to the evening. After a morning on the golf course, the best place to end up is Aquí Me Quedo – “I’m staying here” – barefoot in the sand, with an Octopus Tostada and nowhere else to be.
