Twin Farms

Nestled in the hills of Vermont, this residence cultivates the atmosphere of a welcoming country home rather than a mere stopover. The founding couple used to host their writer and intellectual friends here amidst the lush greenery, and now, set across more than 100 hectares of woodland, meadows, and ponds, the individual cottages are scattered like small, independent homes, each with its own décor, varied architectural style, and a curated art selection featuring works by the likes of David Hockney and Jasper Johns. Dan Kiley’s gardens reinforce the sense of a private estate, while the old Lift Shack – transformed into a picnic retreat – and the small, glass-walled Well Deck pavilion invite guests to explore what lies a little further afield. The kitchen follows suit, showcasing Vermont produce, garden-fresh vegetables, and the property’s own honey and maple syrup, culminating in the famous lemon soufflé pancakes with Vermont strawberries. A real reflection of the great outdoors.

Accommodations

What we like

The Lodge

The Lodge has the scale of a grand retreat, but none of the stiffness -- more Vermont hideaway than country estate.

The Picnic

Take one of the picnic hampers down to Silver Lake and make an afternoon of it.

The Kitchen

At Twiggs, the fire does the cooking. Argentine-style, wood-fired and served beneath a vaulted ceiling that gives the whole place a touch of theatre.
