Anguilla hotels collection

For a long time, the salt pond at Sandy Ground kept Anguilla alive: salt was raked there at the end of the dry season and loaded onto schooners. Near Shoal Bay, Fountain Cavern, hollowed out of limestone, takes its name from a spring; the Amerindians carved the top of a stalagmite into a face, that of Yocahu, god of cassava. With no rivers and scarcely any relief, the island is a slab of coral laid flush with the water; from its southern shore, the hills of St Martin rise opposite.
