A sea wall runs round Stanley Park, between the water and a forest of red cedar and Douglas fir that the rain, from October to April, does little to spare. At Point Grey, Arthur Erickson gave the Museum of Anthropology the posts and beams of the coast's longhouses, cast in concrete, and the carved poles there look out to sea. In Chinatown, craftsmen from Suzhou assembled a scholar's garden with rocks from Lake Tai shipped over in crates. From certain parks, view cones protect the line of the North Shore mountains: the towers stop where they would hide it.
