Hotel Alfonso XIII, a Luxury Collection Hotel
Seville, Spain
Too bitter for the table, the oranges on the trees that line the streets of Seville are shipped to Britain, where they end up as marmalade. In the Real Alcázar, Mudéjar stucco and azulejos surround courtyards planted with myrtle, and the King of Spain still keeps his apartments upstairs. Across the Guadalquivir, Triana, the potters' quarter, long fired the glazed tiles that dress the city's façades and fountains. The Giralda, for its part, is climbed almost without steps: a former minaret of brick, it rises by ramps wide enough for a rider to reach the bells.
