Commodore Perry Estate, Auberge Resorts Collection
Austin, United States
A few iron lattice towers still keep watch over Austin; the city raised them in the days of the arc lamp, to give itself moonlight on demand. The Capitol is of pink Hill Country granite, and the law draws corridors across the city in which no tower may hide its dome. The Colorado crosses the centre; from Mount Bonnell one follows it upstream between limestone bluffs. Barton Springs rises from the same limestone at the same coolness in every season, and people swim there in January above a salamander that lives nowhere else.
