Lanai hotels collection

George Munro, manager of the ranch, heard water dripping one foggy day from a Norfolk pine onto a tin roof: the needles were drawing moisture out of the clouds. He had columnar pines planted along the ridge; others line the streets of Lanai City, set high in the middle of the island. Pineapple, which once covered the plateau, has gone; the red earth has stayed, and it stains everything. At Keahiakawelo, the wind has left ochre and mauve boulders on bare ground. On the north shore, at Kaiolohia, an old tanker of steel and concrete rusts on the reef.
