Baden Baden hotels collection

In Baden-Baden, one bathes above the Romans. The ruins of their baths lie beneath the square; directly over them, the Friedrichsbad moves its bathers, naked, from warm air to steam and then to cold water, as far as a marble pool beneath a dome. The Trinkhalle runs frescoes drawn from the legends of the Black Forest along its colonnade. The Oos, scarcely wider than a brook, follows the lawns and rhododendrons of the Lichtentaler Allee. A funicular climbs the Merkur, named for a votive stone dedicated to Mercury; here too, the Romans had come first.
