Imerovigli hotels collection

For centuries the capital of Santorini stood on a rock: Skaros, a volcanic headland pushed out into the caldera, where the island's families crowded behind the walls of a Venetian kastro. Earthquakes emptied it, and people withdrew to the neighbouring ridge, where a tower, it is said, kept watch over the sea by day against pirates; Imerovigli, the day watch, takes its name from it. At the tip of the rock, the one building still standing, the chapel of Theoskepasti sets a blue dome on its limewashed terrace, above the water.
