Chauth Ka Barwara hotels collection

From its ramparts, the fort at Barwara faces a hill of the Aravallis crowned by a white marble temple, where Chauth Mata sits enthroned; the goddess gave the town its name. The way up is a long flight of steps, and married women come to pray to her for Karwa Chauth, the day they fast until moonrise. The fort, raised by the Chauhans in the Middle Ages, keeps its stone walls among the flat roofs. In the evening, the sun goes down behind the hill, and the temple becomes, for a moment, nothing but an outline.
