Setting out from Agerola, the Path of the Gods runs along the face of the cliff among holm oaks and terraced vines, and arrives at Nocelle, a hamlet hanging above Positano. From there one sees what the road does not show: the dome of Santa Maria Assunta, clad in yellow, green and blue majolica, amid the limewashed façades. On the headlands, old watchtowers still keep an eye on the bay; offshore, the islets of Li Galli, where legend housed the Sirens, stand apart. In May the slopes smell of broom, and the scent carries down to the sea.
