Ravello's merchants traded with Sicily and the East, and brought arches home: at Villa Rufolo they interlace across the dome of the tower and break into points around the cloister. On the ambo of the Duomo, a mosaic whale swallows Jonah. At Villa Cimbrone, a balustrade lined with marble busts stops short above the Gulf of Salerno. The town holds the spur between the valleys of the Dragone and the Reginna, and looks down on the rooftops of Maiori and Minori.
