Castello di Casole, A Belmond Hotel, Tuscany
Casole d'Elsa, Italy
Casole d'Elsa holds the back of a hill that Siena, Volterra and Florence long fought over; of its walls, two gates remain, and the view, which runs across the Montagnola as far as the Maremma. The rocca Siena raised there now houses the town hall. At Pievescola, the arch over the parish church door alternates travertine and limestone. The capitals at Mensano are attributed to Bonamico, who came from the building site of Pisa Cathedral; an inscription in the church asks, in his name, that he be prayed for.
