Savelletri di Fasano hotels collection

The black glaze of certain Apulian vases carries garlands of vine and ivy painted over it; they are known as Gnathia ware, after the city where they were first found, whose ruins lie beside Savelletri. The Via Traiana still runs through them, paved in limestone, between the Messapian walls and the sea. Beyond the harbour, the coast is all low rock, hollowed into pools of clear water. Behind, as far as Ostuni, the plain lines up olive trees so old that their trunks have split open and twisted; the law protects them as monuments.
