Its other name, Rincón, means the nook, and it suits this bay, tucked between the wooden boats of the harbour and Cabo Negro. The cape, also known as Ras Tarf, is simply the foot of Mount Taifor stepping into the sea. Towards Kabila, the wooded dunes shelter the nests of spoonbills, which go to feed in the Smir marshes, the only wetland on this stretch of the Rif coast. Behind the town, the hills come down to the last houses and have left it no room to grow but a strip of sand.
