Poste de Flacq hotels collection

Before a causeway was built, worshippers waded across the lagoon to reach Sagar Shiv Mandir, the Shiva temple of Poste de Flacq, set on the islet of Goyave de Chine. Behind the coast, the Flacq plain is planted with sugar cane; abandoned lime kilns, where coral was once burnt, still rise from it, and the basalt blocks cleared from the fields are piled into low black walls. Casuarinas line the beach at Belle Mare. From June to December the cane is cut, and the plain, cleared field by field, gets its view of the sea back.
