One&Only Mandarina
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Paved with river cobbles, the streets of old Puerto Vallarta climb so steeply towards the Sierra Madre that some end in stairs. The Cuale divides around a shaded island before reaching the Bay of Banderas. At Mismaloya, the sea has cut arches through the granite rocks of Los Arcos, where pelicans come to rest. The bell tower of Our Lady of Guadalupe is topped by a crown. An earthquake brought it down; it was remade to the original design, in reconstituted stone, and it holds.
