Dogmersfield hotels collection

Catherine of Aragon was to remain veiled until her wedding, as Castilian custom required; at the palace the bishops of Bath and Wells kept at Dogmersfield, Henry VII, who had ridden over with his son Arthur, insisted on seeing her face. Later, to clear the view across the park, a Paulet St John had the village that straggled over Tundry Green pulled down; the green became a pond, and what remained of the village gathered into hamlets such as Chatter Alley, near the Basingstoke Canal. The church, rebuilt out among the fields, found itself so far from its parishioners that another had to be raised on their doorstep.
