Lazare Picault named it Isle de Palmes; it was soon renamed after the title of a minister of the navy, the Duc de Praslin, and the palms stayed. In the Vallée de Mai, all the palms found only in the Seychelles grow side by side, and the black parrot nests in the dead trunks of the coco de mer; it breeds on Praslin alone. At Anse Lazio, the granite rounds into boulders at the water's edge. Opposite, Curieuse was first called Île Rouge, for its red earth; it is the only other island where the coco de mer grows wild, and a boardwalk crosses its mangrove.
