Six Senses Ibiza
Spain
The Ibizan farmhouse grows in white cubes, one more room each time the family expands, beneath beams of juniper, a wood that barely rots. Modern architects came to measure and draw it, and recognised what they had been looking for. The churches, at Sant Miquel or on the Puig de Missa at Santa Eulària, share the same lime, over thick walls that sheltered villagers from corsairs. Dalt Vila encloses its cathedral behind Renaissance ramparts. To the south, the salt pans, where flamingos stop over, long kept the island alive; the salt is still harvested at the end of summer.
