Canton of Geneva hotels collection

Beneath the Jonction bridge, the Rhône and the Arve run side by side without mixing: one green and clear as it leaves the lake, the other grey with silt from the glaciers of Mont Blanc. Geneva keeps its old town on the hill, around a cathedral the Reformation stripped of its images. Carouge, laid out in the Italian manner by the kings of Sardinia, shelters craftsmen in the courtyards of its low, tile-roofed houses. Beyond, the countryside is all vines and stone villages, as far as Hermance. When the bise blows in winter, the spray freezes along the quays and sheathes railings and benches in ice.
