Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui
Koh Samui, Thailand
From the coconut groves of Samui, cargoes of nuts once sailed for Bangkok. In Bophut, the wooden houses of Chinese traders still line the waterfront; on the shore at Laem Sor, a chedi clad in yellow tiles rises just above the water. The island is granite; opposite, the Ang Thong archipelago, the golden bowl, raises islands of limestone. Shut in by the cliffs of Ko Mae Ko, the lake of Thale Nai, an opaque green, reaches the sea only through a passage beneath the rock.
