On Koh Yao Noi, the little long island of Phang Nga Bay, the fishermen have kept the trawlers out of their waters, and the villages still live by fishing, among rubber trees and coconut palms. Wooden boats leave at dawn for the limestone islets opposite, which hide hong, rooms in Thai: lagoons ringed by cliffs, reached through a cave when the tide allows. In July, the paddies stand flooded, and water buffalo graze between the plots.
