Canyon Point hotels collection

Escalante and Domínguez, two Franciscans, cut steps with axes into a sandstone cliff to bring their animals down to the ford on the Colorado; Lake Powell has drowned the crossing, beneath a bay called Padre Bay. Around Canyon Point, the Navajo sandstone keeps, slanting across its layers, the slope of the dunes it once was. By boat, one goes up an arm of the lake to within sight of Rainbow Bridge, a stone arch the Navajo hold sacred, looked at without passing beneath it. In summer, crossing into Arizona gains an hour; on the neighbouring Navajo lands, it is lost again.
