Hoi An hotels collection

In some of Hội An's houses, a trapdoor is cut into the ceiling: when the Thu Bồn overflows, in autumn, the furniture is hauled up through it, and then one waits. These merchants' houses, of ironwood and yellow limewash, carry tiles laid alternately hollow up and hollow down, said to be yin and yang. They came from the kilns of Thanh Hà, upstream, where river clay is still shaped into bricks, tiles and jars. On the Japanese covered bridge, a small temple leans against the side of the deck, and a carved monkey and a carved dog each guard one bank.
