Fairmont Le Montreux Palace

Montreux, Switzerland

Fairmont Le Montreux Palace

At the foot of the Alps, this distinctive Belle Époque building has watched over Lake Geneva for 120 years. Preserving the details of its original, Eugène Jost-designed design, the hotel blends Swiss neo-Baroque style with contemporary sensibilities. Back when it opened, it was considered one of the most modern luxury hotels in Europe. In the grand ballroom, designed by Haberer, a 500-kilo crystal chandelier has illuminated a Stravinsky ballet, a Strauss composition and the genius of Freddie Mercury, whilst the lavish Sunday brunch, for discerning palates, cements the contemporary legend of the Montreux Palace. And if, whilst settling in at the Funky Claude Bar, you ask who Claude is and why he’s so funky, the barman will tell you the story of Mr Nobs, the founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival itself. If you’re lucky, you’ll also get some of the fascinating tales that surround him.
