The Datai Langkawi

The Datai Langkawi

In the heart of the rainforest and its centuries-old trees, Kerry Hill – a titan of Asian tropical modernism – placed the pavilions and cottages that make up this residence. Like an upscale hamlet, the property is organised around a central building set on 30m stilts, with various wild enclaves radiating outwards. These range from the Gulai House, a kampung-style home tucked away in the forest where guests savour refined Malay cuisine, to the Nature Centre, inspired by a tribal longhouse and featuring a medicinal plant garden, and a trail that climbs to the top of an ancient strangler fig. Just a few metres away lies Datai Bay, where shades of blue and green melt into the horizon.
