Legend has it that the peninsula home to The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi dates back ten million years. Carved out between jungle and sea within this UNESCO-protected biodiversity reserve, the property blends ancient rainforest, beach, and a distinctive architectural vision. Arriving feels like entering a village, with pavilions inspired by kampungs — traditional Malay houses — some of which feature wooden curves opening onto the greenery, while others stand on stilts, hovering just above the lapping waves. Beneath the roof structure of Langkawi Kitchen, which echoes the design of the longhouses built by Borneo’s indigenous peoples, diners enjoy their meals suspended above the forest. That same forest is reinvented on the plate and punctuates every corner of this retreat, in all its timelessness.
