As we live at the beach we went for the Rainforest Premium Villa instead of the Beach Villa and spent four fabulous nights there. From the moment we arrived at Langkawi Airport where we were met by Wahab who's worked at the property for 25 years, then driven to the resort, until he met us when we returned to the airport to fly home and ushered us past the baggage x-ray machine to the check-in desk to the lounge, everything was perfect. There were no hiccups with staff forgetting personal requests (replenishing the minibar, bedding, etc.) and they were all friendly and efficient. We were offered an upgrade but we preferred our suite so stayed put as it was very spacious, had two desks at opposite windows, a huge bathroom, and a deck overlooking the river. Breakfast was a feast and we dined at the various restaurants in the resort and only went out one night, to Langkawi Kitchen . Food there was delicious but the Ritz Carlton Resort wasn't a patch on Datai Langkawi.
In a word, fabulous
We were after a five star service and got a World Class one. We felt welcomed from the minute we arrived and were particularly reassured by the way the staff managed the COVID-19 SOP's. The quality of the food and beverage selection was very high. The only restaurant we didn't go to was The Pavilion and that was because we ran out of nights. Fabulous dining experience in all venues. We wanted the chance to relax and unwind in the serenity of the environment and the Spa and Nature Centre exceeded our expectation. The suite we were upgraded into was superb and we felt like we were in the rain forest on our own, albeit in luxury.
The staff and the service they provide make or break a hotel. The Datai have the best staff I have ever come across anywhere in the world. Everyone has a smile and hello. Everyone has the confidence to carry on a conversation. They are all truly delighted to serve and take ownership of the hotel and their duties. Each person we spoke to was truly happy to be working at The Datai and that has to be credited to good management. We love The Datai for how they make us feel - at home.
