At the foot of Mount Toubkal, Kasbah Tamadot preserves the legacy left behind by its historic occupants. Amongst fig and orange trees of Asni, Caïd Mohamed Souktani had it built of mud bricks. Luciano Tempo, a Venetian antique dealer, lived there for several months each year surrounded by furniture brought back from India, China and Morocco, and when the British businessman amongst fig and orange trees bought the kasbah, he kept the entire collection. The fabrics used in the riads are now hand-woven by local craftswomen from the valley. Yassine Khalal cooks with vegetables from the countryside and fish from Essaouira, served up at an altitude of 1,300 metres.
