In Munich’s old town, a stone’s throw from Marienplatz, the Mandarin Oriental occupies a Neo-Renaissance building dating from 1875, originally constructed as a ballroom. It has always welcomed guests, and today, the rooms blend Munich’s Biedermeier style with Asian touches, whilst the roof terrace overlooks the rooftops of the old town. Nobu Matsuhisa runs his only German restaurant on the first floor. A morning stroll will take you past the old town hall and the chimes of its Glockenspiel, then down to the bustling stalls of the Viktualienmarkt.
