Egid Quirin Asam built himself a church against his own house on Sendlinger Strasse, and from his bedroom window he could see the high altar. On a narrow plot, everything rises: stucco, gilding, marble, up to the fresco on the vault. Further on, the Theatinerkirche raises an ochre-yellow front over Odeonsplatz, all white within. To the north, the Olympic stadium stretches a roof of acrylic glass over steel cables, beside a lake dug along with the park. In winter, when the Nymphenburg canal freezes, people send handled ice stocks gliding towards a target, facing the palace.
