Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern

On the shores of Lake Lucerne, the Mandarin Oriental Palace has revived a Belle Époque façade dating from 1906, restored by the Lucerne-based firm Iwan Bühler, with interiors that echo the colours of the Swiss landscape. Most rooms have a balcony overlooking the lake and the Alps. The hotel has it’s own boat stop, from a pontoon within walking distance. The the old town is a ten-minute walk along the quayside and the world’s steepest rack railway, just 15 minutes away, climbs up to Mount Pilatus.
