The Alpina Gstaad

Gstaad, Switzerland

The Alpina Gstaad

Above Gstaad, you might start at an alpine cheesemaker or a beekeeper's hives, before heading to The Alpina. The mountain and its trades shape the day: the E-Vespa follows the valley, milk waits to become butter or cream, then come evening the Stübli serves up the flavours of Swiss cooking. Among the chalets, Megu sets up its Japanese counter; Tsutomu Kugota cooks while the valley lives behind the glass, a natural and striking contrast. Francesco De Bartolomeis's cooking is attuned to seasonal produce and forthright aromatics. Late in the day, the Six Senses Spa offers another take on the mountain, with its pools and salt cave. In the lounge, wood and hay take over when the light leaves the alpine pastures.
