From the Alster, the modernist island that is The Fontenay unfurls its white curves through the lakeside greenery. You naturally drift towards the atrium, then the spa, where you swim from the indoor pool right out to the outdoor one before heading to a sauna that opens onto the lake over the treetops. Up on the seventh floor, Julian Stowasser cooks at Lakeside in a setting of warm whites, greige tones and mirrors. At the Atrium Lounge, Mike Kainz's Tea Time runs through herbed cucumber, roast beef with salsa verde, scones and Eclipse, Zylinder or Roll pastries. Above the water, the bar traces an elegant circle; Parkview comes alive as dusk falls.
