Conceived as a multifaceted destination, this residence encompasses three fundamental principles: hospitality, a museum-like quality, and a connection to the river. Designed to showcase the founder’s art collection, the architecture evokes traditional elements, Art Deco, and tropical flair, all hallmarks of Bill Bensley’s signature style which define the aesthetic here. Distinctive artworks punctuate the journey from the greenhouse lobby to the suites, which are reached via walkways, patios, and gardens: Siamese artefacts, Chinese porcelain, and 1930s Thai theatre tickets evoke the atmosphere of a private collector’s home. At Chon, dining takes place within a cluster of three century-old teak houses relocated from the ancient capital of Ayutthaya. Guests can also experience these structures after dark in the third house, home to Connie’s Cottage. Finally, the soft lighting and eclectic array of vernacular objects at the Déco Bar create an enchanting, poetic ambiance, like a Thai melody playing out beside the river that nourishes the capital.
