Rosewood Schloss Fuschl
Hof bei Salzburg, Austria
The Mühlgrub farmhouse in Hof never had a chimney: smoke from the hearth finds its way out under the roof, and the soot has blackened the timber up to the beams. Hof is where the Salzkammergut begins. The Fuschlsee keeps its shores almost free of houses, and no combustion engine is allowed on it. Near the bank, an island built by hand in the early Middle Ages, of brushwood and clay, would pass for natural but for the narrow channel that cuts it off from the shore.
