In the evenings and at weekends, the Minhocão closes to cars: the expressway carried on pillars through the centre, at window height, becomes a promenade for runners and pushchairs. Not far off, the Copan undulates behind concrete sun-breakers whose horizontal lines follow its curve all the way up. On Avenida Paulista, MASP hangs its glass box between two red portal frames and leaves the square beneath open. Inside, Lina Bo Bardi set the paintings on glass easels planted in concrete blocks: the canvases stand in mid-air, their labels on the back.
