Toronto hotels collection

Toronto is cut through with ravines where nothing is built: wooded valleys reached by a timber stair, for walking among the maples beneath the bridges of the avenues. In the Don valley, a former brickworks still shows its wall of clay, source of a good share of the brick in the city's bay-and-gable houses. Elizabeth Simcoe, rowing past the clay cliffs of Scarborough, was reminded of those in Yorkshire, and gave them the name. The Leslie Street Spit was made of rubble tipped into the lake; along its shores, the brick of demolished buildings comes back as red pebbles, rounded by the waves.
